About Us

"Global South" generally refers to regions of Latin America, Asia and Africa. The term "Global South" refers to low-income, developing and often politically and culturally marginalized regions outside of Western Europe, North America and Japan (though not always).

The main objectives of the TED University Unit for Global South Studies are:

  • Organizing national and international meetings, seminars, congresses and workshops on regions defined as the Global South (Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Turkey).
  • Conducting academic and/or social research and projects within the scope of the Global South.
  • To support studies which are conducted from a gender perspective.
  • To carry out joint studies and develop scientific projects  with similar units operating in universities, institutes and research centers abroad.
  • To provide policy makers with policy recommendations regarding these regions.
  • To provide young and senior researchers working in related fields with opportunities in education and research.
